Zoë Mae Levinson, of Lawrenceville, NJ, passed away tragically on June 15, 2023 at the age of 30.

Zoë had many issues that made it difficult for her to live in her own skin, and get close to people. However, she was also a fierce presence, with withering determination, and very, very smart.
At her bat mitzvah, her father called her “my hero” because she was able to get out of her own way and perform without flaw.
People who misjudged the hurdles she faced as stupidity did so at their own peril. One example: when she was young, she wanted to know why her favorite indoor play place and the local Kmart were closing. A quick study, she quickly came to grasp the details of U.S. bankruptcy code, and was able to repeat them to others.

When she was even younger, she happened on a face-painting event in a shopping mall. Her Dad told her she would have to wait patiently for her turn. She waited without question for what seemed an eternity.

“What animal do you want?,” the painter asked.

“A giraffe!,” she answered.

“How about a tiger?,” the woman suggested, clearly at a loss.

Zoë insisted on a giraffe.

She got a giraffe. At least that’s what they called it.

School was often a source of great pain and frustration due to her social difficulties. But when she finally was able to attend the Collier School in Morganville, she rode the bus three hours a day without complaint. It was never a problem to get her up and out the door.

The last month was a great change as she seemed more able to focus and to be more generous to the people around her. It is a great tragedy that we will never learn what she could have become.

She is survived by her parents, Robin Levinson and Larry Levinson, and a brother, Aaron Levinson.

Funeral services are Monday, June 19, at 10:00 am at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Arm in Arm (arminarm.org/) or to NAR-ANON (www.nar-anon.org/) or to the Trenton Rescue Mission (98 Carroll St, Trenton, NJ 08609.)
