Richard A. Pearl, age 82, of Hamilton, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he was a graduate of Lincoln High School and Brooklyn College. He went on to earn two master’s degrees. Mr. Pearl worked in the New York City Public School System in a career spanning over 30 years, beginning as a teacher and ultimately retiring as a principal of James Reynolds Junior High School in Brooklyn, NY.

As both a child and adult, he joyfully spent his summers at Trail’s End Camp in Beach Lake, PA. Beginning in 1947, he spent 63 summers there, starting as a camper and later becoming an administrator, helping to grow the camp into the place it is today, before his retirement in 2012. There is now a building named after him at the camp, The Richard Pearl Pavilion.

His family members were longtime members of Temple Beth El of Manhattan Beach. He later became a member of Congregation Beth Chaim in Princeton Junction, NJ.

Richard loved staying busy. He could be found wood working, enjoying photography, traveling and spending time with his family – especially his grandchildren and his granddog, Max.

Husband of the late Beth Pearl, he is survived by his wife Arlene Pearl, his step children Michael (Nicole) Mulry, Hillary Mulry, and Rebekah (Joel) Schiller, a brother Martin Pearl, and six grandchildren: Brendan, Katie, Ben, Aiden, Sophia, and Jordan.

Funeral services are Monday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road East, Princeton Junction, NJ. Burial will follow in New Montefiore Cemetery, West Babylon, NY.

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the Michael J Fox Foundation to help fund Parkinson’s Research (michaeljfox.org/donate).
