Regina (Ginny) Mayer, 86, passed peacefully in hospice care at Princeton Medical Center on January 21, 2021. Ginny was the daughter of Jacobo Turek and Zali Apter and was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay. After coming to the United States in her late teens, she worked for the Ambassador of Uruguay to the United Nations and lived in New York City, prior to meeting Bill, her husband of 61 years. They raised their family in North Brunswick, New Jersey where Ginny was a devoted wife and mother, before moving to Monroe Township in 1997. In 1986, after her daughters were grown, Ginny began her second career, working for the Dean of Graduate Philosophy at Rutgers University. She loved her time at Rutgers, retiring in 1998.

Ginny was dedicated to her volunteer work and was very involved in several organizations. A native Spanish speaker, she recorded textbooks in Spanish for Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic. She was also a volunteer for many years with Deborah Heart and Lung Center.

Ginny loved her Broadway shows, traveling, the opera and later in life, “dinner with the ladies.” She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing mah jongg and canasta, but always said that if she had her records and books, she was good.

Ginny was fortunate to enjoy the friendship of many, but the most important role in her life was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 2018. Ginny is survived by her three daughters, Sandi (Carl) Feller, Jill  Wolk (John Middleton, Jr.) and Suzanne (Ron) Aspir, seven grandchildren, Jade (Joe) Faulkner-Edwards, Lindsay (Sean) Ek, Zach Wolk, Morgan Feller, Tori Aspir, Skyler Aspir and Cole Wolk, and two great-granddaughters, twins Olivia and Piper Ek. Ginny is also survived by sisters Maria (Philip) Glucksman and Judith (Yacov) Klein, both of Israel, and sister-in-law, Loretta (Stephen) Brickman, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, services will be private on Sunday, January 24, 2021. Shiva arrangements will be announced. Donations in honor of Ginny’s life can be made to Alzheimer’s New Jersey at www.alznj.org or mailed to 425 Eagle Rock Avenue, Ste. 203, Roseland, NJ 07068, or Deborah Heart and Lung Center at www.deborahfoundation.org, or mailed to Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O.
