Juergen Friedrich Althoff, MD

1936 – 2026

Juergen Friedrich Althoff, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law, passed away on July 3, 2026 at the age of 90.

Born in Essen, Germany, on June 6, 1936, Juergen built a life centered around family, science, and kindness. As a Doctor and Professor of Medicine he earned the respect of all those he encountered through his knowledge, integrity, dedication, and genuine care for others.

Above all else, he was devoted to his family and his dog(s). He was a loving husband and a proud grandfather who treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren as well as extended family members. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply being present, he made those around him feel valued and loved.

Juergen’s deep knowledge of, and passion for science and medicine led him to pursue a successful career in medical and cancer research. During his career, he published more than 250 scientific papers and lectured on his findings around the world. Throughout his life he lived in Germany; Normandy and Burgundy, France (where he deepened his appreciation for fine foods and wines); Nebraska (where he expanded his love of the wilderness); and New Jersey (where he honed his talent as a craftsman in partnership with his wife).

An avid hunter and craftsman, Juergen found great joy in nature.  He will be remembered for his humanity, intellect, sense of humor, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife D Lynn Siegelman, his sister (Ute); sons (Roetger and Eric); grandsons (Kevin and Dennis), nieces (Katja, Meghan, Taylor and Stevie); nephews (Holger, Stefan and Niklas); and brother- and sister-in-law (Richard and Cindy).  The family is grateful for the extraordinary care he received over the years from his devoted wife Lynn.

A private service will be held on Monday July 6, at Orland’s Memorial Chapel in Ewing Township, NJ.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Nature Conservancy.
