Steven Klein

NEWTOWN, PA… Dr. Steven W. Klein passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019, surrounded by friends and family, after a long battle with cancer. He was 74.

Born in New York City, Steve was a graduate of Cornell University’s Sibley School of Engineering, where he was also a member of the Men’s Tennis Team. After beginning a career on Wall Street, he decided to pursue a career in academia. He was the valedictorian of The New York University Stern School of Business and received his PhD from Rutgers University in Mathematical Statistics.

He taught various courses in Mathematics (with a focus on the fields of statistics and probability) at University of Georgia, Rutgers University and Rider University, where he later retired.

He married the late Helene Klein and lived in Plainsboro, New Jersey together with their three children Jon, Marc, and Gregg. Following Helene’s passing, Steve was the companion of many years to Leslie Skolnick.

Leslie and Steve were members of Cobblestone Creek Country Club, where Steve enjoyed golf, tennis, and many meals. He was also an avid fan of arts and entertainment and a voracious reader of the New York Times. More than anything, however, he was a lover of life.

Steve is the son of the late Henry Klein and is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law: Jon and Patricia Klein, Marc and Alejandra Klein, Gregg and Julia Klein, his mother Marsha Klein, brother Jeffrey Klein, three grandchildren Hannah, Mateo and Noah, and his companion of many years Leslie Skolnick.

Those who survive him will miss him dearly and will forever honor his legacy by adhering to his advice to always “enjoy the ride.”

Funeral services are Wednesday 2:30PM at The Jewish Center, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ. Burial will follow at Princeton Cemetery.

The period of mourning will be observed Wednesday evening at the Skolnick residence in Newtown, PA.
