With deep love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Audrey Ann (Appel) Corn on October 31, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born in Queens, New York, Audrey spent most of her childhood in Brooklyn, along with a few years in Tennessee. A graduate of Barnard College, she built a career doing something she truly loved: writing. Audrey worked as a freelance writer for numerous magazines and for many years wrote the News of Neighbors column for the Denville Citizen, sharing the stories and milestones that connected her community and helped to celebrate the people around her.
A longtime resident of Denville, New Jersey, Audrey was known for her quiet strength, sharp mind, and unwavering determination. She never sought attention, but those who knew her understood the strength of her character. When she believed something needed to be done, she found a way to make it happen.
Audrey was devoted to her family. As a mother, she was protective, involved, and always present. Her children knew that they were loved, supported, and never far from her thoughts. For many years, they and her husband, Ronald Corn, were the center of her life, and she gave of herself generously to those she loved.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Audrey faced the challenges of widowhood and aging with remarkable fortitude. She assessed what each stage of life required and met it with courage, practicality, and quiet resilience. Her strength was not loud or dramatic. It was steady, persistent, and deeply inspiring to those around her.
Audrey found joy in reading and writing, pursuits that reflected her thoughtful nature. She was also known, with affection and amusement, for her famously plain tastes when it came to food. Family members could always count on Audrey preferring her food “without anything” – and in tiny portions – exactly the way she liked it, a small but memorable reflection of a woman who knew herself well and never felt the need to apologize for it.
Audrey was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Corn and a sister, Jacquelyn Greenblatt. She is survived by her sister, Jane Merahn (Roger); her daughter, Holly-Dee Rubin; her son, Jordan Corn (Rory Van Fossen); her grandchildren: Jonathan Rubin (Cullyn), Matthew Rubin, Jillian Corn, and Evan Corn; and her great-grandson, Finley Rubin.
Audrey’s legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the community she served through her writing, and the example she set through a life marked by love, perseverance, intelligence, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever present in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory be made to your local library.
Funeral servies and burial were held at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park in Ewing, NJ.
