JANIS KIND
1928 – 2022
Janis Kind (nee Lang) died on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at the age of 94. Janis was born in Trenton, NJ, the oldest child of Jerome and Shirley Lang (nee Rosen). The family moved to Asbury Park, returning to Trenton a few years later. Janis graduated from Trenton High School and went on to attend Douglas College. In 1948 she married Ira J Kind (z”l), son of Claire and Leo Kind of Reid’s Jewelers in Trenton.
Janis is survived by her loving family: her sister Leone Schulman, and her daughters Barbara Kind Berman (Howard), Linda Pedisich (Andy) and Micki Kind. Grandmother of Cimone Kind Isard (Alex), Evan Kind Berman (Shauna) and Marlee Kind Dillon (Thomas), Simon Pedisich (Annie), Isaac Pedisich (Deb); Great grandmother of Isabella and Nathan Berman, Sylvie and Hazel Isard and Noa and Miles Dillon.
As well as having taught English and TV production at Trenton High School for 25 years, she was also involved in many organizations. Janis was a lifelong member of Har Sinai Temple, serving on the Executive Board as Senior VP and president of Sisterhood. She was founder and on the steering committee for the Renaissance Group. She was also the first inductee to the Hall of Fame at Har Sinai Temple.
Janis was charter member of both Women’s American ORT in Trenton and the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. She served on the boards of both the Koppleman Holocaust Center at Rider College and the Board of Women for Greenwood House. She also served as the president of the residents’ association at Attleboro Village.
Janis was a wonderful, elegant and loving woman and will be missed by so many people. May she rest in peace.
Funeral services were held at Har Sinai Temple, 2421 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ, burial to follow in Ewing Cemetery.

I am utterly gutted to hear this sad news. When I first started working with Har Sinai in January 2011, part-time in the office, Jan was one of the first members to welcome me with open arms. She and Cantor Wisnia both made me feel very welcomed. Through the years we have shared many laughs and anecdotes. Jan introduced me to so many of the noted members of the temple. I have come to know her amazing family and can see that they carry on with both Ira’s and Jan’s values and sense of humor! She shared with me so many of her most treasured events including the birth and milestones of her great and great-great grandchildren. She also shared her recollections of her time at Har Sinai and milestones that contributed to Har Sinai’s incredible history.
I feel privileged to have known Jan and above all, I will miss my friend.
My heart is broken. I had hoped to visit her on my trip to PA this week. Jan was such an inspiration and always upbeat . We had many good visits together. It was a privilege knowing her.
Janice’s sister Leone and Janice had been friends for almost 70 years My cousin was Roselyn Marcus I knew Janice from Har Sinai and always so friendly even after not seeing her for years She will be missed by many

My memories are Janice go back to when she and Ira moved to 27 Newell avenue A long, long, time ago. In fact, shortly after their move, Janice was pregnant with her second child.
They were a wonderful couple and great neighbors and very much appreciated by everybody else on the street.

Dear Kind Family,
My deepest condolences on the death of your beloved mom, Janis. I remember her fondly from our days growing up in Trenton and at Har Sinai.
Much later she suggested my mom to a young Temple member who was looking to learn about Trenton in the 60’s. He went on to write a very interesting paper for which my whole family is grateful.
Your mom was a caring person who was dedicated to her community. I know how you will miss her.

Sending hugs to all of you…Barbara, Linda, Micki, Leone and your families. Your mom/sister was a major part of our lives. From Buckingham Avenue to Attleboro, Jan and Eunice were a constant. It’s difficult to imagine life without them. Virtual hugs will have to suffice. I wish I could give you real ones. Much love to you all.
