Ilene Zulalian Nusblatt

October 12, 1964 – February 24, 2023.

Ilene Nusblatt of Newtown, PA passed away at her home on February 24, 2023 at the age of 58.

Ilene was born in Boston and raised in Lynnfield, MA, the daughter of Vaughn Charles Zulalian  and Betty Sue (Sandy) Zulalian.  She went on to study Business Management at Babson College where she met the love of her life, Jay Fredric Nusblatt.  On a gloriously sunny day in June, 1989, the two married at an outdoor ceremony along the Delaware River, and for the next 34 years they barely spent a day apart.

Ilene loved animals, particularly elephants and her cats (Flakey, Rafetna, Ferdinand, Annabelle, Babar, Alexander, and Celeste).  In November of 1997, she gave birth to Ava Rose – a healthy baby who defied all medical odds when Ilene’s water broke very early on in her pregnancy.  Ilene’s bond with Ava became her guiding light and she cherished every moment she spent with her daughter.

Ilene was a good friend to many.  They knew that her strength, humor, compassion, and capacity to love made her a one of a kind.  She loved dancing to U2, vacationing in Bermuda and Italy, years in Newtown and Yardley, summers on Long Beach Island and cakes at the Holiday Snack Bar.  Ilene was a loving sister to Lia Zulalian-Moynihan, and Jay’s two brothers, David (deceased) and Rick, and daughter-in-law to Sandra Nusblatt, who became a second mother to Ilene.

In 2008, Ilene developed scleroderma and battled this relentless disease for the remainder of her life. Ilene lived nine lives and then some.

Ilene is survived by her loving husband, Jay, daughter, Ava, sister, Lia Zulalian-Moynihan (David Moynihan), mother-in-law, Sandra (Fred Bernstein), nephews Adam (Taylor) and Keith (Nicole), sister-in-law, Beth, and brother-in-law, Rick (Steve Hogan).
