Herbert Philip Marks
1931 – 2024
Herbert Philip Marks, of Plainsboro, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024 at the age of 92.
Herb was born in the Bronx NY on July 28, 1931 to mom Ruby and dad Nathan. He was an only child. Herb attended NYU but left early when drafted by the US Army to serve in the Korean War where he earned the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After the war he married Barbara (Rosenbluth) who was the sister of one of his best friends growing up. They had children Neil in 1956, Geri in 1959 and David in 1969. After driving a NYC taxi after the war, he was introduced to the finance and banking industry by a childhood friend and that was his career till retirement, including founding his own business. The family mostly lived on Long Island and Livingston New Jersey and after Barbara’s passing in 1995 he settled in Lawrenceville, NJ.
Herb was an avid reader and NY Times crossword puzzle player. He was a highly regarded baseball player in high school and a golfer in later life which he enjoyed playing with his sons and grandson. He made friends everywhere he lived including over the last two years of his life at Maplewood at Princeton assisted living.
He is survived by his three children Neil, Geri and David, grandchildren Eric and his wife Elizabeth, Jacqueline and her husband Russell, Jamie and her husband Rick, Rachel and her husband Vincent, Benjamin and Daniel, and great-grandchildren Jacob, Grayson, Layla, Violet and Callie.
Funeral services and entombment with military honors are Tuesday, May 21 at 12:15pm at Cedar Park Cemetery, Sanctuary of Abraham and Sarah, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ.
