Clifford C. Halper, of Langhorne, PA passed away Friday, March 19, 2021, after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD) with his loving wife and family by his side. Clifford was born to Seymour and Sylvia Halper on June 1, 1948 in Trenton, NJ.
Cliff was a gregarious man, known for his trademark handlebar mustache, larger than life personality and charismatic, magnetic presence. Cliff graduated from Steinert High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor’s degree from Wagner College in 1970. Upon graduating from college, he married the love of his life, Barbara, then packed up for Houston to attend South Texas College of Law. After graduating law school in 1973, Cliff returned home to NJ with his family to start his successful law career.
In 1976, the Kivler and Halper law practice was established. With its emblematic large white bald eagle statue perched in front of the office, Cliff became known and recognized for his outstanding legal service and wise counsel. Over the years, Cliff continued to practice law in Hamilton, NJ, later as a sole practitioner, then ending his illustrious career of Counsel with Destribats Campbell and Staub. Cliff was passionate about the law and had a gift for relating to clients with compassion, humor and empathy.
Cliff’s enthusiasm for life influenced so many people; he was passionate about everything he did. Cliff spent years designing and building a unique Frank Lloyd Wright-style dream house in Lambertville, NJ where he enjoyed creating memories with his family and friends for over 25 years. Earning the Eagle Scout award as a teen instilled virtue in Cliff that he carried through until his dying day. Cliff turned his passions for big game hunting and guns into a business, Fairchase Firearms, as a highly respected federally licensed gun dealer. Cliff adored collecting coins, books, artifacts and memorabilia, especially about his idol, President Theodore Roosevelt. Cliff could be found many weekend mornings perusing flea markets or gun shows; always bringing home a new treasure.
Cliff’s passions and love for life enraptured everyone around him. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Barbara (Calehuff) Halper, three children, Brady Seth (Megan) Halper, Bryan Marc (Kristin) Halper and Brooke Bella Halper, his grandsons’ Harrison Fox Halper and Henri Braydan Halper, his sister, Norene (Robert) Barish, nieces Melissa Barish and Shari (Craig) Cangelosi, along with many other loved family members. Cliff will be deeply missed by all.
Funeral services and burial are Sunday, March 21 at 1:00 pm at Congregation Brothers of Israel Cemetery, 1100 Cedar Lane, Hamilton, NJ. The service will be livestreamed via Zoom. See above for the link to view the livestream.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, lbda.org
I’m very sorry to hear that Cliff has passed away. He was larger than life from a young age. I first met Cliff in the swampy and treed area between Deerwood Ave where he lived and Herbert Ave where I lived. As kids it was great with turtles, trees for tree climbing and general muck. I remember a couple birthday parties at his house. In high school, everybody knew Cliff and knew his large personality. In the 1970’s, my Dad retained Cliff to be the attorney for our family farm that Hamilton Township was obsessed with trying to shut down our mining operation that had been operating for decades. Cliff always beat them head-on with action and intelligence. He was a bear.
I’ll miss seeing Cliff for pizza with my buddy Marty Scott from time to time. He was a big fellow in mind, body and heart.
My heart goes out to his family,
Dave Lyons
Dave said it all. A gentle giant, alway a kind word about Barbara and his family. Helped me obtain my drivers license (we tested together in his “bug eyed” sprite). Easier to park than a golf cart. During the last few years, we would meet for dinner and he often reminded me of funny times that I had long since forgotten. He will be missed but not forgotten. RiP Buddy 🥲
Sooo sad to hear of Cliffs passing!! Phil enjoyed having Cliff on his team along with all the other guys! We had many good times and lots of laughs!! We send our heartfelt sympathy to you Barbara and your whole family! Thinking of you!!!
I’m so sorry to hear about Clifford‘s death. Because we were separated by distance and time I didn’t have much chance to be with him but in my childhood, he was my hero. He gave me his Boy Scout books and I even got to use the tent that aunt Sylvia sewed by hand. Listening to his stories was always an adventure.
Even now, I greatly enjoy the outdoors and have many opportunities to share this with my own son.
I am sure that he will be sorely missed buy those that love him.
I was saddened to hear of his passing. He was a great man and adored his family.
I met Cliff and Barbara when I was 11. I babysat for Brady and Brook and have many fine memories with that beautiful family.
Although we lost touch after they moved from Yardville I still held them in my heart.
My sincerest condolonces to the entire family.
He was truly a unique person. He was the best boss I ever had and a wonderful mentor. He taught me so much and set me on a life long path in the legal system. Fun was guaranteed when he was around. He cared more for helping people than making money. He will be sorely missed but my family has great memories of him.
Dear Barbara, Brady, Bryan & Brooke,
My sincerest condolences on Clifford’s passing. I know the struggle you all have endured but Cliff is free now and you will all meet again one day, but not to soon. I remember first meeting you two (Cliff & Barbara) through Allan & Corinne when I was in the military around 1977, left the service in 1980 and finished by undergraduate degree at Rider College (1984) and returned back to the U.S. Army for another 20 years as an Officer. Every time, I returned back to visit the Cowans and on their passing, to see my brother Stanton, he is visiting me in Florida right now. I always enjoyed my time talking with Clifford, when our paths crossed. Clifford exemplified to me “What it meant to be a True American, patriotic, forthright, strong, confident, hard working and taking care of his family and friends.” He was larger than life, burned brightly wherever he was and I envied his mustache which in the military one couldn’t have such a wonder, but now I have a goatee. Barbara you’re the quintessential woman/homemaker, hard worker, and the love & sacrifice you provided to your husband Cliff over the last 14 years is nothing short of exceptional. I know, everyone will say that’s the way it is supposed to be, but in the real world it doesn’t happen like that. It has always been my pleasure & honor to know you both and I trust your future will be filled with the love of your children & your grandchildren and Clifford will be over-watching us all from heaven.
With love,

We are so sorry to hear about Clifford passing and for your loss.
We have great memories of Clifford and his larger-than-life personality and laugh.
The wonderful stories, his adventures he would tell us and we remember his office and the trophies on the wall. Definitely a modern-day Teddy Roosevelt.
Please accept our deepest condolences to you and the kids.

Dear Barbara and Family,
Please accept my deepest sympathies over your loss.
I have many fond memories of the times Cliffy and I spent together opening the door at all the gunshows we went to and traveling to Tulsa , Baltimore and Louisville searching for those elusive treasures.
Not to mention all the fun times and parties at Fairchase.
We had so much in common including Austin Healy Sprites.
He will be sadly missed by many.
With much heartfelt sadness, Sue and I share in your loss and wish you peace.
He will be missed by many.
Matt & Sue Sinberg
Cliff was always the source of “high energy” in our crowd of “running buddies” back in our high school and college days. I can picture him now in his little Austin Healey “Bug Eye” Sprite, full of laughter and shouting “friendly insults” to everyone’s delight. There was always fun to be had when Cliff was around! He always was “bigger than life” and he will always remain so in my memories. Goodbye old friend!

Dear Barbara, I’ll never forget the day you brought Cliff to my dads house to show him the monkey rug he had acquired!! They started talking hunting and such and from that day on became fast friends. My dad so loved him!!! And mornings Cliff would pick me up on the way to work as you and I worked together for the state. So many beautiful memories. May he Rest In Peace in Gods loving arms. With our very deepest sympathy to you and your beloved family.. Love, Claire and Bill Holt
