Mark Z. Segal
1938 – 2024
Mark Z. Segal, 86, of Yardley, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday September 15, 2024. Mark was born in Trenton, New Jersey to Drs. Samuel and Bertha (Kreimer).
He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Teri Rose Segal, and his children Stephanie Segal (Joel) Miller and Michael (Nan) Segal, and his sister Sally Segal Shenker. He is also survived by his wife Teri’s son, Richard (Arlene) Rose.
If you knew Mark, you knew he loved golf. Also, Teri, his kids, and being a lawyer. The decades he spent as a partner at Fox Rothschild in Princeton, New Jersey, where he specialized in matrimonial and divorce law, were fulfilling and rewarding, professionally and personally.
When I spotted Dad’s 50th George School reunion submission about his life by a pile of books, I knew he was still watching out for us, lending help writing about his life. Here is Mark in his own words: “As I reflect on the past 50 years, I can honestly say I have no regrets where life has taken me. The overall quality of my life and that of my family have continued to exceed my expectations. I have two wonderful children and have had the pleasure of watching them grow and achieve their own status in life. I remain close to my children and we continue to share in each other’s lives.”
“Early in my career, I realized that sitting in an office reviewing and drafting documents was not for me. The challenge that a courtroom and litigation offered was where I was headed.” He was recognized by his peers with the highest ratings, both at national and state levels, as well as being selected and listed in Best Lawyers in America and Super lawyer in New Jersey. During his active years of practice, he served on various State and local Bar Association executive committees relating to issues in the practice of family law.
As a young lawyer, during the civil rights movement, Dad went to the courthouse when there were protests to look for people who were thrown in jail so he could represent them pro bono. I remember a story of a woman he helped whose husband refused to give her a get (a Jewish divorce document). Dad made his case, the Judge told the husband, “Pack your toothbrush, you’re going to jail,” Dad got the Get. One of his clients sent me a beautiful letter about how Dad helped her through her divorce, so I know what he wrote is true: “I am certain that over the years I helped many individuals through very traumatic times.” Mark helped many people and was always willing to share his wisdom and assistance to clients, friends, and family. Thank you, Dad.

Mark was a great friend and a great law partner.
Mark (and Steve Lichtenstein) and I originally crossed swords in 1971 or 1972 when I was a Deputy Attorney General, and he was a worthy adversary. Years later, we became partners, and he had become not simply an outstanding lawyer, but a true friend. Mark will be missed by all who knew him.
With heartfelt sympathies to your family I will miss my colleague.
I’ve always enjoyed playing golf with Mark. I will truly miss him.
My deepest condolences, Jack Lichstein
