Dr. Elaine Golden Robison
Elaine Golden Robison passed on September 17, 2026 after a vigorous life of 83 years. Born to Stella and Maurice Golden, of Brooklyn NY, her own life touched many people who are mourning her passing, including her spouse Tobias Robison, children Naomi Seulowitz and Ezra Robison, their spouses Rob Seulowitz and Ziva Mann, her brother Paul Golden, her grandchildren Shai, Sam, Joe, and Eliana, her many cousins and relatives, and innumerable friends.
Elaine had a wonderful memory, a sharp intellect and a passion for learning. She attended Barnard College, graduating summa cum laude. She was one of the first women to attend Princeton University for graduate school, where Elaine obtained a PhD in Medieval History. Later in life, she dedicated herself to Jewish studies at Drisha, asking passionate, insightful questions of her teachers.
After leaving academia, Elaine spent the majority of her life raising her children, writing articles about medieval figures, and managing the consulting company she co-owned with Tobias. She volunteered as the chief financial officer of a small organization, The Hub, that provided social activities for disadvantaged adults.
Community and relationships were a core focus for Elaine, who stayed in touch with a remarkable number of friends, writing letters, messages on Facebook, or by knitting gorgeous sweaters and other garments for her family, friends, and friends’ babies. She was a dedicated member of the Jewish community in Princeton, supporting the Center for Jewish Life, together with her husband. A brilliant cook, she used her cooking skills to care for others, welcoming them into her home. Over time, Elaine, together with her husband, provided a home-away-from-home for many Princeton students who appreciated having an extra anchor in their lives. Her cholent recipe was for many years posted at the cholent web page at Cambridge University.
Elaine was a thoughtful and caring friend, a beloved wife of 64 years, mother, and grandmother. We who miss her will enjoy having a small part of her to accompany us into the future.
Funeral services are Sunday, September 20 at 10 am at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery, 104 Deans Rhode Hall Road, Monmouth Junction (South Brunswick), NJ. The procession will meet at Floral Park Cemetery across the street from Washington Cemetery prior to being led to the gravesite.
The family will sit shiva at Elaine and Toby’s home in Princeton after the service until 4 pm.
For decades, no holiday has come without a lovely card or note from Elaine and Toby.
I will miss her.
