Dr. Uma Sharad Joshi, 82, a beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully on January 31st, 2025 in her home. Born to Jasud Shah and Chandulal Shah on December 30th, 1942, Uma was raised in Ahmedabad, India and later immigrated to the United States, where she spent the majority of her life in Lawrenceville and Pennington, New Jersey.
In 1967, Uma married the love of her life, Sharad Joshi. They were married for 22 years, making a life for themselves and their children, before his passing.
She was an extraordinary student, graduating at the top of her high school class and then studying medicine to become a pediatrician. She later pursued a career in psychiatry, caring for patients at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital for 25 years.
Beyond her professional life, Uma enjoyed long walks throughout the day, playing cards, and crocheting. Perhaps most of all, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, with whom she shared countless memories. She especially loved traveling with them and took immense pride in their accomplishments.
Predeceased by her husband, brother, and parents, she leaves behind her loving family, her son Maulik and his wife Emilie, her daughter Ami and her husband Mohit, her two beloved granddaughters, Ella and Madyson, her beloved grandson, Lucas, and lifelong friends for whom her memory will be forever cherished.
Her compassion for others, curiosity for the world, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of love.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Share & Care Foundation and CurePSP in her memory. A funeral service will be held at
Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, New Jersey at 2:30 PM on Sunday, February 2nd.
Following the service, family and friends are invited to visit at the home of Uma.
