Helen Rose Schindler Hutchinson
1930 – 2024
Helen Rose Schindler Hutchinson, of Ewing, passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at the age of 94. She passed peacefully at home four years to the day she lost her husband. Helen was born in Trenton, New Jersey, to Frank and Anna Schindler. She was a 1948 graduate of Hamilton High School and later St. Francis Laboratory Technician Program. She worked in the field for more than 30 years.
On April 19, 1952, Helen married the love of her life, John C. “Hutch” Hutchinson Jr., and they settled in Ewing. The couple raised two daughters and four sons. In 1982, when her first grandchild was born, Helen became affectionately known to her family as “Meemom.”
She was born during the Great Depression, a defining era that shaped her into a woman of great resilience, generosity and religion. Helen and Hutch were Catholic and attended St. Michael’s Church and The Church of Saint Ann.
Helen was the nucleus of her family, and her home was the hub of so many of life’s moments. She was an animated and brilliant storyteller and cherished family gatherings where those stories were often told.
She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed gardening, the beach, boating, fishing, camping, and feeding her backyard birds. Helen was also a die-hard football fan, and the Kansas City Chiefs were her team.
Upon retirement, Helen and Hutch traveled the world, visiting and photographing many countries. Each trip was a grand adventure where they immersed themselves in the culture, as they had a knack for capturing life through the lens.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Ellen Hutchinson, son John C. “Jack” Hutchinson, III and brother Fred Schindler. She is survived by her children Carolyn Reading (Michael), Christopher Hutchinson (Adriene Presti), Robert Hutchinson and James Hutchinson (Jacqueline), her grandchildren Lauren Hackett (Howard), Ashley Hutchinson, Keary Kwiatkowski, Robert Kwiatkowski (Lyndsay Woodward), Jennifer Costa (Paulo), Gregory Kwiatkowski, Stephanie Hutchinson, Christina Hutchinson (Jefferson Frazer), Raechel Loggins (Tanner), Annabel Hutchinson, Henry Hutchinson and her 13 great-grandchildren (and one on the way).
A special thank you to Barbara Nyzio for her love and support.
A funeral mass will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at The Church of Saint Ann (1253 Lawrenceville Rd., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648) – and internment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105) or The Church of Saint Ann. To send condolences, visit OrlandsMemorialChapel.com/Helen-Hutchinson
“Helen & Hutch, Forever and Ever”
Helen was such a nice person. She always made you feel welcome. During one of our many conversations we discovered that we lived in the same neighborhood when we were very young. She will be missed by all who knew her.
