MONROE TOWNSHIP… William Mayer, 83, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, March 24, 2018.
Born in Philadelphia, he grew up in Plainfield, later raising his family in North Brunswick, before becoming a resident of Greenbriar at Whittingham, in Monroe for more than twenty years.
Bill was a manufacturer’s sales representative for the Suave Shoe Corporation for 25 years. Following his retirement, he hosted a local radio show on WCTC, “Active Adults”, covering all things regarding seniors. He was an active volunteer and event-speaker for AARP, and the 2006 recipient of the Andres Award for his volunteer service. Bill was very involved with his community at Greenbriar at Whittingham, where he was master of ceremonies for the shows and served as president of the Yiddish Club. He loved going to New York and seeing Broadway shows with Ginny, later taking his daughters and his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, and will be remembered for the character he was.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Ginny Mayer, three daughters, Suzanne Mayer Aspir (Ron), Sandra Feller (Carl), and Jill Wolk (John Middleton), a sister, Loretta Brickman (Stephen) and her family, and seven grandchildren, Jade Faulkner-Edwards (Joseph), Zachary Wolk, Colton Wolk, Lindsay Ek (Sean), Morgan Feller, Tori Aspir, and Skyler Aspir.
Funeral services are 11 AM Tuesday, March 27, at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road, Princeton Junction. Entombment will follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge. The period of mourning will be observed at the home of Jill Wolk Tuesday 4-8pm and Thursday 1-4pm and 6:30-8:30pm, and at the home of Regina Mayer Wednesday 1-4pm and 6:30-8:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to The Parkinson Council (theparkinsoncouncil.org) or to Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org).
