Susan Weiner

Susan Frances Sookne Weiner

1961 – 2024

Susan Frances Sookne Weiner of Pennington New Jersey passed away on March 28, 2024 at the age of 62.

Susan was born in Freeport, New York and spent most of her life living in Mercer County New Jersey.  Susan attended Paul Smith’s College, where she received an Associates Degree in Travel and Tourism, and Burlington County Community College, where she received an Associates Degree in Medical Records Technology.  Susan spent many years working in the hotel industry for Hyatt Hotels and later spent many years working in multiple positions within the Princeton Healthcare System while raising her two loving children, Sam and Rachel.  Susan eventually became a full-time mom, devoting endless hours to supporting her children’s academic and extracurricular activities, whether as a room mother, dance-mom, chaperone, chauffeur or cheerleader.

Susan was incredibly creative, frequently being called upon by friends and family to apply her special set of skills as the “Queen of Theme” to create and execute unique designs for birthday, graduation and other celebrations.  Susan was also a master organizer and always able to take chaos and wrestle it into an orderly reality.  She took great pleasure from her volunteer work at Homefront, being an unofficial team mom and cheerleader for every team at Hopewell Basketball Association and rarely ended a day without first having asked someone “Is there anything I can do for you?” Her first instinct was always to be helpful and kind. There was never a more generous soul than hers.

Above all, Susan was one of those unique individuals who could walk into any room and walk out with multiple new friends.  Always outgoing, always focused on making everyone instantly comfortable and feeling like they were never strangers.  Whether humming (and sometimes singing) one or another Partridge Family song, sampling pretty much every variety of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream ever made or drawing design inspiration from countless episodes of Flea Market Flip, Susan had a personality and approach to life that drew people to her from all walks of life.  Susan’s favorite message to all was always to “Pay it Forward,” and spread kindness wherever you go.

Susan is survived by her son, Sam Rubin, daughter Rachel Weiner, husband Michael Weiner, brother David Gilman, brother Charles Sookne, nephews Garrison Gilman, Emerson Gilman and Branson Gilman and niece Madison Gilman.

Funeral services are on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, 1:00 PM at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ.  A private burial will be at Newtown Cemetery immediately following services.  A celebration of Susan will be held at Amalfi’s Kitchen & Bar, 146 Lawrenceville Pennington Road, Lawrenceville, NJ, from 5 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday evening.  Memorial contributions are respectfully requested to American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (www.afsp.org) or Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES) give.nyulangone.org/funds/faces

My condolences for your loss. I am shocked. I remember Susan in so many ways, as an employee, a patient, and medical records registrar at both Capital Health and Princeton. My favorite recollection was when she was assigned to decorate the Ob floor at the old Princeton Hospital for Christmas. The confetti placed on the floor quickly spread throughout the hospital. I realized how fast an infection could spread. May she rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear this. My deepest sympathies to Michael, Rachel and Sam. I frequently saw Susan when she would come to drop off Riley and Bogey for daycare. She would always wait so that we could chat and catch up. She was always fun to talk to and cared very deeply about her family. We were pretty much the same age so we had a lot in common. May she rest in peace.

    Dear Family,
I am so sad to learn of Susan’s passing. We worked together at Princeton Healthcare for many years. She was always smiling and joyful! An incredible unit secretary, her willingness to contribute to the welfare of the staff and patients was extraordinary. May her memory remain in our hearts eternally and the family find peace.

Years ago Susan oriented me at the hospital where we shared the Birth Registrar position. She was so relaxed happy fun and always helpful. And I remember her as a person who put family first, a trait not easily navigated working in a hospital. I’m sending love to her today and to her family in the days to come.
