Stephen Wayne Borrus, MD

Dr. Stephen Wayne Borrus, 73, of Lawrenceville, NJ passed away on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at home after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. Beloved by family, friends, colleagues, and patients, he was a pillar of his community where he practiced internal medicine for over 44 years.

Born in 1947 in Newark, NJ to the late Dr. Joseph and Gladys Borrus, he grew up in Edison and attended high school at Rutgers Preparatory School. He received his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester in 1969 and his medical degree at The College of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (now called Rutgers School of Biomedical & Health Sciences) in 1973. After internal medicine residency training in Miami Beach, FL, he returned to New Jersey in 1976 and joined Lawrence Medical Associates in Lawrenceville, where he practiced medicine right up until his cancer diagnosis in November 2020. He was affiliated with Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where he was the Section Chief of Internal Medicine for many years. He was also a longtime member of the American Medical Association and the American College of Physicians.

His family and friends will miss his amazing and unique sense of humor, his calm and gentle manner, and the compassion he showed for everyone he met throughout his life. Given his extraordinary humor, he was invited to be Master of Ceremonies at his hospital’s annual awards dinner, an event that he thoroughly enjoyed hosting each year.

In addition to his work, Stephen enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling to his vacation home in Boca Raton, FL and cheering on his beloved Dodgers (he remained loyal to them ever since they left Brooklyn when he was a child), Eagles and Vikings. He was beyond thrilled to witness the Dodgers celebrate a championship in 2020.

He was also a longtime member of Congregation Brothers of Israel, formerly of Trenton, NJ and now located in Newtown, PA.

Stephen is survived by his wife of 49 years Dorit Borrus, his daughter Dr. Michelle Borrus (Frank) of Bethesda, MD, his son Dr. Daniel Borrus (Ilene) of Princeton, NJ and his five grandchildren: Jenna, Jake, Olivia, Victoria, and Ethan. He is also survived by his sister Kathy Borrus of Washington, DC, his brother Michael Borrus (Audi) of San Francisco, CA, his nephew Josh, and his niece Samantha.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a graveside service on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 will be private. A public memorial service will be planned for a later date when it is safe to do so.

Contributions in memory of Stephen may be made to the American Cancer Society, Capital Health Regional Medical Center, Congregation Brothers of Israel, or Abrams Hebrew Academy.

I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. I have been a patient for over 30 years. I have never met the most caring loving compassionate kind person in my life. He was the BEST doctor and I will never find another like him. He always spoke about his family and loved his grandkids and my last appointment was before thanksgiving and how he was wanting to go to Florida with his wife. What a sweet and kind man who loved and cared for his patients. He will be greatly missed by all. My deepest sympathy to your family. Marijane Supal

We are deeply saddened! Dr. Borrus cared for three generations during the past 44 years. He along with Dr. Adler were an inspiration to my sister’s care before and after multiple-organ transplantation. Dr. Borrus was not only an awesome doctor but a very caring and genuine person! It was a pleasure and honor to know Dr. Borrus. Our sincere Sympathy and Prayers for the Family and Lawrenceville Medical Associates!

I am so deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Borrus. I was a patient of his for many years. He was uncommonly caring and patient with all who came in contact with him. His type of old-school caring and professionalism will not be seen anytime soon. He was one in a million. May his memory be a blessing to his family.

So sorry to learn of the passing of Steven. I will always cherish the memories of sitting with him at the scorers table at the RPS basketball games when he was the student manager and I was his “assistant “….( we were both Dodger fans )and were thrilled to be a part of OKE’s basketball team and cheer on Billy Landau, Dave Lampen, Andy Blumberg, Jay Greengarten, Hal Spiegel, Joe Jacobs, Roy Mittman and the rest of the guys….
After 55 years I still remember his Steven’s warmth, friendship, humor and support….
My wife Linda and I send our deepest sympathies to Kathy and all of Steven’s family.

My heart aches. Forty-two years ago, by shear luck, I found this amazing man who became my doctor, my friend and part of my family. You can see by the comments posted what a gracious, kind, caring, NICE man he was and how much he meant to all of us. I spoke with him a couple days before he passed. I will be forever grateful for that pleasure and will remember it always. He will not be forgotten. Sincere sympathy to his family.

Dr. Norris was recommended as a great and compassionate doctor for my mom when I moved her here from Maryland. LIked him so much he became my doctor and he lifted the spirits as well as tending to the body. Loved how excited he was to become a grandfather and how fondly he spoke of his family and his January Florida trips. My condolences to the family. We have lost a great man. Rest in peace Dr. Norris.

Our hearts are saddened by the loss of the kindest Doctor I’ve ever had the pleasure to know. Dr. Borrus was so compassionate and truly cared about you as a patient and friend. My parents Joseph and Mary Corridoni absolutely adored him and trusted his medical expertise.
He seen us through many health crisis. I remember when he first started working At Lawrence Medical on Lawrence Road. When my Mom couldn’t go to the office anymore he would make a house call. He would play with our dog and he enjoyed seeing all the Christmas decorations as he toured the house. He had a great sense of humor and made us all feel like family instead of a patient.
Dr. Borrus was an inspiration and one of a kind. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends. Sincerely, Judi (Corridoni) and Scott Sandford, Debary, Florida
    (Formerly of Ewing, NJ).
