Seymour Friedman, of Pennington, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the age of 96.
Born in Newark, New Jersey on June 18, 1927. He was a proud first generation American, the son of hard-working Russian immigrant parents, and as a young boy, he helped by working in the family candy store.
He attended West Side High School in Newark and earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from The University of Cincinnati. After working in architecture for some years, he joined the family business, Jansen Office Cleaning, where he later became sole proprietor of the company.
He enjoyed skiing and purposely built a vacation home in the Poconos, fondly dubbed “The Cuckoo House,” where we all could enjoy weekends and school vacations skiing or swimming at the lake together, as family time was most important to him. Later in life, he became a true Renaissance man, as he enjoyed sculpting, writing poetry and playing bridge and Rummikub.
Also known as Pop-Pop, his family was most important to him. His devoted wife of 66 years, Dorothy, son Martin (Beth) Friedman and Paula (Jeffrey) Gross and grandchildren Rae (Steve) Pellegrino, Alec and Chance Friedman and Aidan, Shane, and Ethan Gross.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to The American Heart Association.
He will be sorely missed but will always be with us.
Funeral services are 11:00 am on Friday, December 1 at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Burial will follow in Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY.
Dorothy, it is certainly sad news to learn of Seymour’s passing.
He was after all responsible for us to join our wonderful community through our dear friends
Al and Sandy Pollack.
Please accept our deepest condolences while going through this difficult time.
Fondly, Minnie & Bob Vecere
