Sandra Gordon Davis
of Mountainside & West Windsor, NJ
Sandra Gordon Davis, known to all as Sandy, died peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2021 in West Windsor, NJ.
Sandy was born on April 23, 1933 in Newark, NJ. She was the daughter of Jack and Jennie Gordon, spending most of her childhood years in Irvington NJ. She later received her teaching degree from Montclair State Teacher’s College and taught social studies, physical education and typing in Mountainside Public Schools. She was married for 48 years to Bernie Davis who predeceased her in 2006. They raised their family in Mountainside where she lived for 60 years.
If you knew Sandy, you’d know she was a kind and deeply caring soul, who was always in high spirits. She lived a very fulfilled and active life. She absolutely loved all kinds of dance and most infamously tried out for the one and only NYC Rockettes. If you asked her why she didn’t make the cut, you would get a different version of the story every single time:) When her formal dancing days were over, she was the queen of Zumba until age 85. She also loved going to the theatre and seeing shows in NYC with her family, especially musicals with highly choreographed dance numbers. Aside from dance and theatre, she was an avid gamer, in the most classical sense. Sandy tackled The NY Times Sunday edition crossword puzzler every week and could be found at the Mountainside Community Pool dominating the bridge and rummikub ladies circle. She also loved to walk and took up golf in her retirement. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family who meant the absolute world to her.
She is survived by her daughter Michelle and son in law Lew Korngut (Lawrenceville, NJ), her son, Jay and daughter in law, Kathy Davis (Maynard, MA) and her four grandchildren Jen, Greg, Kara and Jon.
Funeral services and burial are private at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family respectfully requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Brain Foundation www.americanbrainfoundation supporting research for a range of brain diseases including Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia.
We send you all love… Your Mom was beautiful inside and out.

She brightened so many Thanksgiving gatherings at our house. We will miss you, Sandy!
For more than 25 years Sandy and I existed in the same building, Deerfield Middle School. Did we ever! We loved teaching and relating to hundreds of Mountainside children during their developmental years which included their happiness and even, sadly, sorrows. Our personal relations covered 40 years of deep friendship, playing tennis and bridge, seeing films and Broadway shows. I watched her perform in the local musicals, marveling at her dancing abilities and wondering, along with her, why the Radio City Rockettes didn’t see it, too. And what bravado it took back in the 70’s gathering up our own children into two well used cars, waving goodbye to our husbands and driving down to Disney World in Orlando, Florida. We hosted celebrations of other teachers’ and friends’ retirements, engagements and pregnancies usually at Sandy’s home. That warm, loving house is also gone now but Sandy’s dazzling smile, incredible sense of humor and derring do will remain for all who drive past 1207 Foothill Way. Trust me, she’s there.
