Rita N. Epstein
1932 – 2024
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of Rita N. Epstein, who left us peacefully on August 25th following a brief illness. Rita, who celebrated her 92nd birthday on March 11th of this year, lived a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many.
A woman of many interests and talents, Rita graduated from Rutgers University during a generation when this was uncommon for women. As a professional she became a highly respected and sought-after math teacher and tutor in the Lawrence Township school district in New Jersey.
Rita extended her respect for education to her children whom she supported and encouraged as they each achieved advanced degrees. She was an avid reader and swimmer who loved her crosswords almost as much as her dogs.
Rita was the devoted wife of the late Dr. Howard N. Epstein, a respected ophthalmologist who passed away in 2010 at the age of 81. Howard was well-known in the Trenton area for his medical expertise and his artistic talents. Together, Rita and Howard built a beautiful life in Lawrence, NJ, raising three children and enjoying the company of their nine grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Rita is survived by her children, Marc Epstein (Bonnie), Ron Epstein (Kate), and Ellen Epstein (Eric Hollreiser). She was the proud grandmother of Brett, Blair, Ginger, Catherine, Henry, Oliver, Ben, Ryan, and Olivia, and great grandmother to Frances and Monty each of whom brought her immense joy and pride. Rita’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her.
Funeral services in celebration of Rita’s life are on Tuesday, August 27th, at 11:00 AM at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township, New Jersey. Following the service, burial will take place at Roosevelt Memorial Park, 2701 Old Lincoln Highway, Trevose, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to The Seeing Eye charity at SeeingEye.org.
