Richard Harold Clawson, 79, of Ewing, passed away on October 22, 2024, in Lawrenceville.
Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident. He grew up on the family farm in Ringoes, learning the value of hard work. He spent countless hours tending to pigs and cows, as well as planting and harvesting crops with his father. He graduated from Hunterdon Central Regional High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged.
Richard was a model train enthusiast much of his life. In his youth constructing a room with a tremendous village layout, to the delight of his nephews and nieces. He was a volunteer member of Amwell Valley Fire Co.
He worked for RCA in Bridgewater, NJ. He also worked for Thomas J. Lipton in Flemington and collected Lipton Tea memorabilia. He worked as a custodian at Princeton University for many years before retiring.
In 1979 Richard met his beloved Cathy at the Yellow Brick Toad in Lambertville, NJ, during the height of Disco. They married in 1981, welcoming the birth of their son Joseph later that decade. Richard was a loyal Green Bay Packer fan, cheering them on in the recliner with Joseph at his side. In 2010 they attended a Packer vs. Eagles game, a great day for them on opposing sides, Joseph being an Eagles fan. Richard passed on his love of sports to Joseph. He was a devoted father and attended nearly every game Joseph played in.
Richard is survived by his son, Joseph Clawson, and his sisters Virginia Perkovich and Linda Fisher.
He was predeceased by his wife Catherine Holzman Clawson, his parents Harold and Marion Clawson, his sisters Sarah Perkovich and Barbara Pershyn, and his father & mother in-law Joseph and Wanda Holzman.
Funeral services are Friday, November 1, at 2:00 pm at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Visitation is 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Private interment will be at Ewing Cemetery.
