Richard Bray

1950 – 2022

Richard Bray passed away on Monday, May 16, 2022 at his home in Hopewell, NJ. He was 71.

Richard John Bray was born on November 30,1950 in the Bronx, New York. He was the only child born to Janet and John Bray, both predeceased.

Richard loved his cousins and friends, and of course, the NY Yankees and NJ Devils. He attended many games with his dad, and then carried on the tradition with his daughter Jackie.

He worked hard in school and received a scholarship to Staten Island Community College. After graduation, he served time with the Navy, worked part time in Manhattan and ultimately worked full time at NYU Medical Center as a physical therapy aide while figuring out his next steps. Richard loved working in rehabilitation and took an interest in prosthetics and orthotics, which landed him at NYU where he graduated in 1975 with a degree in prosthetics and orthotics.

Richard married Etta Levin in 1974, and they had one child, Jacqueline. The family ended up in Bergen County in 1978 where Richard worked in his field and ultimately opened his own place in Westwood, “Bray Orthotics and Prosthetics”. Richard was an avid golfer and bowler, and was involved in advancing his field of prosthetics, lobbying for changes at the State level.

Richard leaves behind his daughter, Jacqueline Bray-Mullen and son in law William Mullen, grandsons, Ethan and Riley and beloved pets Cameron and Sadie.

Funeral services are Friday, May 20, 2022 at 11:00 am at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township, NJ. Burial will follow in the Adath Israel Section of Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, in Ewing, NJ.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org and American Heart Association at heart.org

My friend and my colleague. After I left my business, you were gracious enough to allow me to share your office for over 9 years. We shared a profession but our shared friendship was most important. I am saddened at your passing but your kind spirit will live on in the hearts and minds you touched. Rest in peace my forever friend. To RJBCPO from RABCPO

    Jackie and family
Richard sounds like a very caring dad and granddad. I hope you find comfort in he memories of the times you’ve shared. I don’t think he could’ve asked for a better family.
