Paul Mitchel Gottlieb, age 68, of West Winsor, NJ passed away on December 20, 2022 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center after years of battling various 9/11 related cancers.
Throughout his illnesses, he fought hard and persevered in order to celebrate his children’s weddings and the births of his granddaughters.
Born in Brooklyn, Paul grew up on Long Island. He earned his bachelors from Hobart College (’76) and his JD and MBA from Washington University in St. Louis (’80). While studying in the cafeteria for his first law school final, Helene Roiter sat down at his table, and never got up. After Wash U, the two moved to the Chicago area, married and started their family. In 1987, the family moved to New Jersey, where they have resided ever since.
Paul had a diverse range of experiences within the financial/legal realm including time as a trader on the floor of the Chicago Board of Trade, a partner of a large NYC law firm, and led US Legal & Compliance for a multinational bank. One of his proudest professional moments was leading RBC Capital Markets through their post-9/11 recovery – the offices were at One Liberty Plaza, across street from the World Trade Center.
He loved the game of golf, loved his Saturday golf game and loved the guys he played with. Above all, he loved golfing with his wife and sons. He enjoyed playing lacrosse and ice hockey, but he was most passionate about coaching & watching his kids’ teams. He also enjoyed cruising and travel.
Personally & professionally, no matter what Paul was doing it was made better by doing it with or for his family.
Paul is survived by his wife of 40 years Helene Gottlieb, his two sons Jordan (Bonnie) Gottlieb and Zach (Alexa) Gottlieb, two granddaughters Hailey and Sloane, his mother and stepfather Thelma and Gene Miller, his brother Alan (Kathy) Gottlieb, his mother-in-law Myrna Roiter, his brother-in-law Robert (Jackie) Roiter, as well as several step siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his father Henry Gottlieb, his stepmother Renee Gottlieb, his father-in-law Don Roiter, and his sister-in-law Nessie Roiter.
