Marvin Pakman, of Morrisville, PA passed away on September 19, 2023 at the age of 95.
Born in Trenton, he resided in Yardley since 1963 maintaining his Jewish affiliation with Har Sinai Temple and, later, Brothers of Israel.
While seeking his Bachelors degree in Music Education at Trenton State College, he taught music in the Trenton Public School system for 20 years before retiring. He gave as much as he could to his students to ensure their success in both music and life.
Marvin was an Army veteran of the Korean War stationed at Fort Benning, GA. He was also a proud lifelong member of the NY Musicians Local 802.
Before becoming a music teacher, he owned and operated a small Jewelry store in Princeton, NJ on Witherspoon St.
Throughout his life he was a “club date” musician playing accordion and, eventually, the piano and cordovox. More than twenty years ago, Marvin was able to take the musical arrangements he had written and created two CD recordings with his daughter Jill singing lead vocals.
Marvin became a widower in 1993 when his beloved wife, Leatrice/Tootsie to whom he was married for 37 years, succumbed to her cancer. He is survived by his only daughter, Jill Pakman, a Cantor in Easton, PA in the Lehigh Valley. He is also survived by a nephew, Dr. Kenneth Pakman of Richboro, PA and his niece Shelley Pakman Weisberg, a corporate insurance specialist, residing in Center City Philadelphia. Marvin is also survived by more than a few first and second cousins who were near and dear to him, along with cherished family friends.
Funeral services and burial are 2:00pm on Thursday, September 21 at Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Road, Ewing, NJ.
Memorial contributions are respectfully requested to be made to West Virginia University School of Music (www.music.wvu.edu)
May Marvin rest in peace. I was honored to have known him when we were on the faculty at Junior High School Number One in Trenton. He elicited many talents from his students.
