Martin Gluck

Martin H. Gluck (“Marty”)

May 6, 1937 – July 10, 2024

Martin H. Gluck, affectionately known as Marty, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2024, at the age of 87 in Plainsboro, NJ. Born on May 6, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, Marty lived a rich and fulfilling life, filled with love, smiles, and cherished memories.

Marty, the beloved son of Julius and Beatrice Gluck, was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He earned a business degree from Baruch, City College of New York, which laid the foundation for a successful career in risk management. Marty spent over 25 years at Rudin Management Inc., where he retired as Senior Vice President. He was so proud to work for such an amazing company and truly cherished the wonderful colleagues he worked with.

On September 15, 1962, Marty married the love of his life, Irene (Zwickel) Gluck. They were so proud of the home they bought together on Staten Island in 1968.  It was here where they raised their three girls, who enriched their lives: Paula, Andrea, and Julie. He is survived by Paula, her husband Stuart Levinsky, and their children, Dara, Noah, and Adam. Andrea San Marco and her children Maddie and Brandon. Andrea’s partner, Ron Quain, and his children Mikey and Nicole. Julie, her husband Gregory Hirsch, and their children Iris and Talia. Marty and Irene’s legacy continues through their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.

Marty’s days were often routine; however, he truly appreciated his life and had an unwavering love for family and friends. He was Irene’s primary caregiver for over a year after she was diagnosed with cancer and missed her terribly after she passed in 1999. He often reminisced about Irene, their shared love of travel, shopping days in the city, and dining out. Marty always looked forward to his rock shrimp, salmon, Chinese food, or anything in garlic sauce.

Marty and Irene loved exploring the world together. After her passing, he continued to travel with his dearest friends. Marty’s travel adventures included visiting all seven continents and countless countries. Marty had a knack for turning every trip into a story worth telling—like the time on a boat to Antarctica, where the beds had bars and the plates had suction cups to handle the rough Drake Passage.

With a sharp wit and a collection of memorable one-liners like “she’s so bright, we should call her sunny,” Marty brought joy to all the people in his life. His kindness and loving nature left a lasting impression on so many, always greeting them with a warm hug, a kiss, and making them feel special by remembering their names and other tidbits. Marty was exceptionally generous and thoughtful; you could always count on him for a birthday or holiday card as well as phone calls on special days. He especially loved bringing gifts and flowers for any occasion to all those who touched his life.

Marty’s life was a testament to love and kindness. Though he has left us, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends. He lived 87 remarkable years, just 13 shy of a hundred, as he would remark each year, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

A private graveside service will be held at Cedar Park Cemetery in Oradell NJ. Shiva will be at the homes of Julie (Sunday and Monday), Paula (Tuesday), and Andrea (Wednesday). Please reach out to them for details.

Marty was one of a kind. His love and passion for his daughters was remarkable. He would bring skirt steak to the Hirsch’s … and we would join them for dinner to enjoy some steak together … sometimes with Marty and other times with Julie & Greg. He was so thoughtful. And I thought it was so sweet how he’d find a good sale and share his findings!
