Joan Marilyn Roth died peacefully at home on Sunday, September 11 in Chandler, Arizona at the age of 90.
Joan was born on June 8, 1932 to Eva and Ben Adelberg in Trenton, New Jersey. She was a graduate of Trenton State Teachers College and received her Master’s in Education at Columbia University Teachers College in New York City. Joan was a celebrated teacher of the deaf and children with learning disabilities, a profession from which she retired far too early. She was also a Life Master of the American Contract Bridge League – as is Omar Sharif – a fact she never failed to mention in the same breath.
Joan married Irving E. Roth in 1960. The family were congregants of Har Sinai Temple and Congregation Beth Chaim.
Joan is survived by her husband Irv, now 91 years old, and her daughter Mollie, now both of Chandler, Arizona.
Funeral services and burial are Friday, September 16 at 12:00 pm at Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Road, Ewing Township, New Jersey.
Funeral arrangements are by Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel.
I will deeply miss my mother’s wonderful sense of humor. She could find something humorous in just about anything and her laugh coulld be heard for miles!!!She was openly supportive of those who suffered from the disease of addiction, myself included.
She loved the sport of tennis and never missed a match involving the William’s sisters.
I will miss her support, always!!
I miss my beloved cousin Joan. We would laugh and cackle together and talk about family members. Her mind was sharp as a tack. She loved her pets and she often said that she would never want to be without them. RIP
