Fira Simanovsky

Fira Simanovsky, age 90, of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024. Born in Odessa, USSR, on February 9, 1934, Fira lived a remarkable life defined by love, resilience, and determination.

Fira was the beloved wife of Zinovy Simanovsky, who predeceased her in 2009. Together, they built a life rooted in family and defined by perseverance. She is survived by her two sons, Alexander and his wife, Susan Poller-Newman and Oleg; her cherished grandchildren—Michael, Erin, Jenna, David, Dara, Lauren, Ben, and Andrew; and her great-grandchildren, Ryn, Zoey, Liam, Penelope, and Kohen. She also leaves behind her beloved sister, Olga Goldman, of Odessa, Ukraine, and her favorite niece, Dr. Marina Tourkova.

Fira’s life journey was extraordinary. She earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering in the USSR and worked alongside her husband as an engineer before immigrating to the United States. At the age of 43, she left behind everything she knew to start anew in America with her family, carrying only her unshakable belief in hard work and the strength of love. This courageous move became one of her proudest accomplishments.

In the U.S., Fira continued to pursue excellence, working as a Mechanical Engineer at Bechtel Corporation before turning her passion for food and family into a thriving business. She owned and operated Princeton Bakery, where she became a cherished member of the community, known for her delicious challahs and her warm hospitality.

Fira loved cooking, traveling, going to the movies, and sharing her passion for the opera. She firmly believed that no matter what challenges life brought, “We’ll get through it,” a motto she lived by and passed down to her family.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 9:45 a.m. at Princeton Cemetery, 29 Greenview Avenue, Princeton, NJ. Shiva will follow at the home of Bradley and Elaine Poller, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Fira’s legacy is one of strength, love, and unwavering support for her family and community. She will be remembered as a woman who showed her love through her actions, her cooking, and her unconquerable spirit.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Fira’s memory by sharing a meal with loved ones and embracing the strength of family—just as she would have wanted.”
