YARDLEY, PA… Bernice Engel Kline, age 95, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Bernice was born May 17, 1923 to Philip and Lena Salzberg Engel. She graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson and went on to graduate from Cedar Crest College in Allentown, Pennsylvania in 1944. While at Cedar Crest she met the love of her life, Eugene L. Kline, then a student at Lehigh University. They dated for seven years and went on to be happily married for 54 years until his death.
Bernice began her teaching career at Clifton High School, Clifton, New Jersey. After marrying Eugene L. Kline in 1947 Bernice moved to Trenton and later Yardley to raise her family. Bernice went back to teaching when her two boys were in middle school and taught in the Pennsbury School District for 23 years teaching at Medill Bair High School, Charles Boehm Middle School and Pennsbury High School.
Bernice was a long time member of Har Sinai Temple. She was the wife of a president of the synagogue and the mother of another president. Bernice served as president of Har Sinai Temple Sisterhood, was a member of ORT and kept in touch with many close friends in weekly canasta games. She enjoyed needlepoint and knitting. She was a refined and classic woman who instilled the love of education in her children, enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending winter months in Florida and relishing in her children and grandchildren’s successes.
Surviving are her children Martin E. Kline and his wife Janice Selinger Kline of Yardley, Philip E. Kline, MD of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, a sister Charlotte Engel Levin of Yardley, four grandchildren, Howard W. Kline and his wife Elizabeth M. Kline of Alexandria, VA, Lesley Kline Stanley and her husband Efrem Stanley of Hoboken, NJ , Eric V. Kline of Middletown, NJ, Andrew M. Kline and his fiancé Hannah Singer of New York City, and one great grandchild Jacob A. Kline.
Funeral services are Tuesday 11AM ( June 19) at Har Sinai Temple,2421 Pennington Road, Pennington. Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery. The period morning will be observed at the home of Martin and Janice Kline. The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Har Sinai Temple.
