Barry Neufeld

Barry “Les” Neufeld, of West Windsor, NJ passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Schenectady, NY, Les was a devoted husband and father, married to Sohraya, “Nipa” Neufeld for 60 years.  They met when he was stationed in Bangkok from 1962-1965. Les was a Counterintelligence agent working for the Army Security Agency in various roles. They originally lived in Schenectady, NY and moved to central NJ to raise their family in 1970.

While in the service, Les attended numerous service schools including the Army Airborne School and the Royal Malaysian Tracking School. He served multiple tours of duty in Southeast Asia where he was awarded the Bronze Star. After active service, he returned to the States and worked in various capacities before arriving in central New Jersey to work as head of security at what was then the RCA Space Center in East Windsor.

He left that role to work for the NJ Court System as a Constable and Court Officer for three plus decades. In that capacity, he became a leading expert in Collection Law & Enforcement, served as president of the New Jersey Superior Court Officers Association, and was a respected consultant for the World Bank helping to reshape the judicial system in the Republic of Georgia and Turkey in the early 2000’s.

Nipa was, without question, the love of his life. More than six decades ago, he picked her up at JFK when she left Thailand over the objections of her family and they proceeded to create, nurture, and love a family that was the center of their shared world.

Outside of work, Les worked on behalf of his community and family, serving on community boards in Twin Rivers and the Village Grande. He could be found volunteering time as a coach and official for his son’s swim teams, something they both continued on as adults. In Twin Rivers, he was also active in adult sports leagues, enjoying softball, racquetball, and football.

In recent years, he was a devoted Pop-Pop and grandfather to Bethany and Ben, for whom he would do anything asked.

He passed away the night of February 25th peacefully at Fellowship Village in Basking Ridge, NJ having spent time that afternoon with Scott and Glenn.

Les is survived by his sons, Scott & Glenn, daughter in law Jeannie, and grandchildren, Bethany and Ben.

I was a neighbor as well as a friend to Les and Nipa during the time our families lived in the Twin Rivers Community in East Windsor, NJ. Our son Ken and their sons Scott and Glenn were friends growing up. Even though I moved to Florida more than a decade ago, I continued my friendships with Les and Nipa. Nipa always said that there would always be a place at their home for me if I ever wanted to come back to New Jersey to visit. Rest in peace my friend.
