PRINCETON… Joshua F. Greenberg passed away at the age of 85 on July 2, 2018.
Born in 1933 in Brooklyn to Betty and Emil Greenberg, Josh attended Abraham Lincoln High School and then received his B.A. in 1954 from Columbia University where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa his junior year. He received his law degree in 1956 from Columbia Law School where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
In 1959, he married Reva Messeloff and the couple raised their family in Scarsdale, New York where they resided for over 50 years. Immediately after law school, Josh started working at the law firm of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hayes and Handler (now Arnold & Porter) specializing in Antitrust Law. He remained there as a partner for over 40 years providing counsel to a wide variety of clients including Hartz Mountain, Sony and the Beatles. In addition to his law practice, he taught as an adjunct Professor of Law at New York University School of Law and Pace University School of Law and served on the Board of Trustees of the Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City and as the President of Camp Ella Fohs.
Josh was an avid gardener, a world traveler and perhaps the only graduate of his era who followed Columbia football. Most of all, Josh was the consummate “people person” – he loved people and people loved him.
He is survived by his sister, Elaine Erichson of Samford, Connecticut and his three children, Betsy Ie of Princeton, New Jersey, Jim Greenberg of Weston, Massachusetts, and Annie Michaelson of Montgomery, New Jersey. He leaves eight loving grandchildren, Douglas, Andy, Hilary, Robbie, Tommy, Will, Kate, Zoe; also daughter-in-law Julie Greenberg and sons-in-law, Darma Ie and Gregg Michaelson and his many special friends. As Josh would say, “God Bless You!”
The family invites donations be made in Josh’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). Friends and family members may attend the graveside service, officiated by Rabbi Jeffrey Sirkman, on Tuesday, July 3 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Eden Cemetery, 20 Commerce Street, Hawthorne, New York, 10532.
