Harry Masterson

EWING… Harry Joseph Masterson Sr., of Ewing, NJ, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2018, at Capital Health Hospital, in Hopewell, NJ.

Born in Lambertville, he was a resident of Ewing most of his life. Harry was a 1942 graduate of Trenton Catholic Boys High School, who was drafted into the Army in 1943 and traveled through France and Germany, assigned to a medical unit that followed General George S. Patton’s Third Army.

Harry sang professionally with the Bill Fabrizio Band early on. In 1957 he started as a Ewing police officer, rose to the rank of captain and retired in charge of the traffic division in 1989.

Harry was a member of numerous community groups and served as President in multiple organizations including the Fraternal Order of Police, Sunshine Foundation, Holy Name Society.  He supported Veterans causes in many capacities.  He truly loved Ewing Township and was often referred to as “Mr. Ewing.” He served as a coordinator of public events including the mayoral inauguration, Memorial Day, Veterans Day , 9/11 Patriots Day, Christmas tree lightings, Sunshine Foundations Dreamlift for kids to Florida and the Elks Easter egg hunt. Most notably he was President of the Ewing Patriotic Committee that founded the annual 4th of July Parade in Ewing Township which he ran for over fifty years.  He supported Veterans causes in many capacities.

Harry thoroughly enjoyed the company of his best friends at their daily breakfast club meetings.

Faith, family, and community were the driving forces of his life.  As a Third Order Carmelite, Harry nurtured his daily living with prayer.

Son of the late Frank and Annette Masterson, grandfather of the late Jessica Masterson and husband of the late Mary Palmieri Masterson he is survived by a daughter Eileen Masterson, three sons and daughters-in-law Harry and Cheryl Masterson, Edward and Cynthia Masterson, Frank and Joanne Masterson, a sister Margaret Giordano, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brothers Frank, Robert, John, Joseph, and sisters Nan Perrine and Catherine Masterson.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday 10AM, June 29 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church,137 West Upper Ferry Road, Ewing. Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery.

Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours 4PM to 8PM Thursday, June 28 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church.
