Anna Greenwood

EWING… Anna Greenwood, 99, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018.

Born in Hungary in 1918, she was a survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp. She emigrated to the United States in 1949, residing in Philadelphia.

A tomboy, she was athletic even into her 80’s, often swimming the Danube River as a young woman. Anna loved ping pong, and also had a lifelong fascination with the study of medicine.

Fiercely independent, she is remembered as a woman well ahead of her time. Humble, protective, selfless and overly-generous to her family, she never wanted to be pitied. Her experience surviving the Holocaust did not define her. She built a new life and put it behind her.

Wife of the late Eugene Greenwood, she is survived by four daughters, Barbara Berg, Marian Shafman, Judy Greenwood, and Linda Greenwood, a sister, Martha Friedman, as well as six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services are 2:30PM Monday, May 28, at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township. Burial will follow at People of Truth Cemetery, on Cedar Lane in Hamilton Township. The period of mourning will be observed at the Shafman residence Monday through Thursday evenings. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Jewish Family & Children’s Service of Greater Mercer County, Greenwood House or Young Israel of Lawrenceville.
