Francine Sheffield

RIVER EDGE… Francine (Fran) Sheffield, 86, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Born and raised in New York City, she and her family moved to Fort Lee before becoming long-time residents of River Edge, NJ. She recently relocated to live closer to her children and grandchildren.

Fran graduated from Hunter High School in NYC and earned a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College. While teaching full time and raising a family, she earned a Master’s degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

She started her career as a teacher in the NYC public schools, and then taught at the Dorchester Elementary School in Woodcliff Lake, NJ for 30 years, where she met so many wonderful students, friends and her amazing Dorchester family.

Fran was a voracious reader, loved music and Broadway shows, and enjoyed doing the NY Times crossword puzzle. She was a former president of her local ORT chapter, and a life member of Hadassah.

Daughter of the late Anna and Sam Greenberg, sister of the late Gerry Greenberg, and mother of the late Marjorie Sheffield, Fran is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Lisa Sheffield, and three grandsons, Matthew, Jason and Mark of West Windsor, NJ.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, March 18, at Congregation Beth Chaim, 329 Village Road East, Princeton Junction, NJ. Interment will be private.
