Karen Gelfand was a docent at PAFA museum for many years. She was very knowledgeable about American Art and lead many tours of the museum.
She was a member of our retired docent group who discussed art each week together on zoom call. She was a great communicator and passed her knowledge onto all of us. She was a sincere person and had many fine qualities. She will be much missed!
Karen was a neighbor, we lived on same street, a block or so apart. We often saw each other at the Cosmopolitan Club where we both were members, we seemed to enjoy many of the same programs. Recently she gave me orchestra tickets which she couldn’t use, great seats. She was a lovely person and she will be missed.
Karen was a knowledgeable lover of art and art history.
Many visitors to PAFA benefited from her tours of the art works.
I enjoyed her contributions to our emerita PAFA docent corps .
She will be missed.
Karen was an active member of the Rittenhouse Square Committee for The Philadelphia Orchestra and participated in many of our fund raisers and events. She attended most of our meetings and offered many thoughtful suggestions. As President of the committee, I offer our condolences. We will miss her.
Karen was my neighbor on Mount Vernon St. for over 30 years. She entertained beautifully and wore a wonderful witches hat on Halloween while giving out treats. She was stubborn about how she wanted to live and got her way until the end. God Bless Her.
