Margarita Esther Bonnet-Cruz, of Ewing, passed away on March 29, 2025 at the age of 85.

She was a teacher of kindergarten – 2nd grade in the Dominican Republic before coming to this country.

Margarita enjoyed coloring books, word searches and crosswords, painting her nails, watching Spanish television channels, cooking ground beef with rice, bacalao, sopá, café, and walking around stores – even if she didn’t need anything.

Her family remembers her for her selflessness. She was happiest when caring for those around her and her love for her family overflows through generations. She was skilled at using her sense of humor to reframe difficult situations, cracking jokes and reminding others not to take misfortunes too seriously, to trust it is in God’s hands. When figuring out solutions, she was resourceful and used her creativity and intelligence to make fixes with what was at hand – like the time she fixed a wobbly table with paper towels she had in her purse.

Margarita took great pride in her appearance and she loved brushing her hair into a ponytail with a clip, wearing her nails long, strong and painted with metallic pink, red or gold. Yet she was a natural beauty and never sacrificed comfort. Even with all the energy she spent caring for and loving others, her life also reflects the care she showed for herself. Through careful planning, organization and discipline, she leaves a legacy to be honored and she may now bask in it eternally.

Margarita is survived by her husband, Edilio Cruz; her daughter and son-in-law, Irma and André Fisher; granddaughters, Kiana Fisher, Nina Fisher and Marissa Fisher; and nieces Nina Bonnet, Betty Bader and Evelyne Hopkins and brother, Juan Orlando Bonnet.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo Antonio and Yrma Bonnet and siblings: Eduardo Antonio Bonnet II, Gladys Bonnet de Rodriguez, Luis Bonnet, Osvaldo Bonnet and Dr. Carlos Bonnet.

Family and Friends are invited to a visitation on Thursday, April 3 from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing, NJ. Graveside services are Friday, April 4 at 12:00 noon at Fountain Lawn Memorial Park, 535 Eggert Crossing Road, Ewing, NJ.

Although I never met you in person I knew your daughter Irma. I’ve known Irma for over 20 years from Law Enforcement and now we are teammates on our dragon boat team. Irma spoke so highy of you and even though I never met you I knew, You. You did an amazing job at raising such a strong woman. She loves you and will cherish every moment in her heart. When Irma called me to tell me about your medical condition I immediately began to pray for you. Irma kept me updated every chance she had. Mom, you will be missed but your memory will continue to live in the lives of your daughter and granddaughters. I pray that the whole family be encouraged. I pray that the peace of God that surpasses all understanding cover each and every one you.

    Be blessed

Dear Mr. Cruz, Cathy and family!

We, your former neighbors, at 13 Lanning offer our deepest sympathy in Mrs. Cruz’s passing. So grateful to see her love and care for her family. We shared many laughs and even tears of saddening seasons with losing our loved ones. I always appreciated her kindness and the sharing her clothes lines with me during the summer months. Those joyous moments of their first grandchild and our first just a month apart. Then the twins just a month apart from our fourth grandchild. It will be my prayer that your family will trust God and put all in His Mighty hands, as Margarita did. We continue to pray God’s comfort, strength and healing for each of you. 🙏🏽

Aside from her beautiful smile that could light up any room, I always remember her as a person with great optimism and strong faith in God.
Every time I would see her and ask her how she was doing. She would say “¡estamos bien porque estamos con el Señor Jehová!” (I’m good because I’m with my Lord Jehovah)

I miss Margarita very much and really look forward to seeing her again in the paradise. To tell her, we all good now, because we are all with our Lord Jehovah 😊 (Revelation 21:3,4)

To all of Margarita’s family, you have my deepest condolences and will constantly be in my prayers.

Cathy and family, your abuela (sp?) was a kind, sweet women. She was always great with me and my kiddos when she was at your house. We loved when she came and stayed with you when we were neighbors. I am so sorry you won’t have her there but her memories will always live on in all of you and us that had the privilege of knowing her!! We had to learn some Spanish to keep up with her, lol. May she rest in peace forever and be remembered by all that knew her! Deepest sympathies to you all…hugs!

RIP Mrs Margarita Bonnet – Cruz 🙏
