Iris Scull

MEADOWBROOK, PA… Iris Elaine Scull, a loving and cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017.  She was 91 years old.

Iris was born in Newton, New Jersey to loving parents Nathan Fogelson and Pauline Fogelson (Seplow).  She attended Rider College in Trenton, where she met her husband Leon.  After their marriage, they settled in the Trenton suburbs where they raised their four children.  After Leon’s passing in 1989, Iris moved to Coconut Creek, Florida, where she lived for 23 years before moving up to the Philadelphia area to be closer to her family.

Iris worked as a substitute teacher and later retired as a disabilities’ examiner by the NJ Department of Labor. While in the Trenton area, aside from raising her children, she was an active member and former President of the Sisterhood at Congregation Brothers of Israel Synagogue.  She always welcomed relatives and friends into her loving home.  In Florida, Iris was an active volunteer and chair of many organizations.  She had an abundance of friends, especially Sarah, her closest friend of 68 years.  Iris loved to read, travel, play mah jongg and cards, relax at the pool, and shop with her friend Norma.  She loved and looked forward to hosting all of the special visits from her children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Wife of the late Leon G. Scull, Iris is survived by her four children, Shelley Dormer, Jacalyn Crass, Robin Rydzewski (David), and Mitch Scull (Kathy), as well as her eight grandchildren, Nicole (Christopher), Kevin (Megan), Brian, Allie (Chad), Brad, Casey, Matthew and Jenna, and great-grandchildren Emily, Benjamin, Christopher, Olivia, Samuel and Lucas. She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.  Aside from Leon, Iris is also pre-deceased by her sister Ruth Hope, brother Robert Forbes, son-in-law Gary Dormer, and niece Linda Forbes.

Funeral services will be held Sunday 1PM ( September 24) at Har Sinai Temple, 2421 Pennington Road, Pennington, NJ. Burial will follow at Congregation Brothers of Israel Cemetery on Cedar Lane in Trenton.  Relatives and friends are welcomed to join the family for Shiva at 260 Greenview Road in Yardley, PA from 4-7 PM on Sunday, and on Monday at 7 Weaver Drive, Marlton, NJ between the hours of 5-8 PM. Donations can be made in Iris’s name to the City of Hope, cityofhope.org/giving, an organization where she was a devoted and passionate volunteer.
