PHILADELPHIA… Alan Goldstein, 71, passed away on June 10, 2017 at Penn Wissahickon Hospice.
Born in Princeton, he grew up in Roosevelt, NJ. As an adult, he resided in Ewing, NJ, Yardley, PA and for the past four years Center City Philadelphia. Alan Goldstein was a graduate of The College of New Jersey.
He retired from the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender as a Chief Investigator. Al loved his work as an investigator and shared many stories over the years. Post-retirement he worked four years with New Jersey Protection and Advocacy where he advocated for the rights of psychiatric patients. The past four years Al and his wife resided in Center City Philadelphia where he enjoyed the many cultural and educational activities, and volunteer work with elderly victims of crime.
Al was a longtime member of Beth El synagogue in Yardley and currently Philadelphia’s Congregation Rodeph Shalom.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen Goldstein, daughter Julie Goldstein, brother Joseph Goldstein and many wonderful niece and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 12, at Congregation Rodeph Shalom, 615 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA. Burial will follow at Ewing Cemetery, 78 Scotch Road, Ewing, NJ. Shiva will be observed on Monday, June 12, 7 PM – 8 PM at The Granary Apartments, second floor community room, 1901 Callowhill Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are respectfully requested to either Congregation Rodeph Shalom of Philadelphia, PA or Congregation Beth El of Yardley, PA.
