Helen Posner, 97, of Lawrenceville, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday November 11, 2022, with family by her side.
Helen was born in Paris and emigrated to the United States at 18 months of age. She lived in Brooklyn, New York until she met and married Henry and moved to a farm in Hopewell, New Jersey. For the last 40 years of her life, Helen lived in Lawrenceville.
Helen helped out at the farm until her children were old enough to be alone after school. She then secured a job at Princeton University editing the Graduate Catalogue. Upon her retirement, she did temp work before getting a job at Kooltronic. Helen then moved onto decades of volunteering, first at Princeton Hospital Surgery Center and was then one of the first volunteers at the Grounds for Sculpture. She “retired” from volunteering at age 93, and dedicated her life from that point forward to her family.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband and soulmate, Henry Posner, and her son, Charles Posner. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Avny and Mel Steinbook, granddaughter Shelley Avny and her husband, Kevin Bonomi, grandson Michael Posner and daughter in law June Posner.
Funeral Services are 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 13 at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Rd, Ewing, NJ. The period of mourning will be observed at the Avny residence in Lawrenceville, NJ. Shiva will be held on Sunday from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and Monday from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, The American Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
I’ve known Helen Posner for more than 40 years. To be with her was to get 100% of her attention. She always had a sparkle in her eye, especially for her family. Life presented challenges to her, but her positive attitude was there until the end. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and the results shine in Susan and Shelley. Mrs. Posner created an incredible recipe for Butternut Squash soup that I use countless times each year, and now with each spoonful, I will remember Mrs. Posner.
