Gerardus Out

Gerardus “Garry” Theodorus Out, 62, of West Trenton, NJ, passed away at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in the early morning hours of Thursday April 7, 2022.

Garry was born in Ridgewood, NJ on June 17, 1959, to his loving parents Petrus “Pete” and Anna Schermer Out. The family moved to Maywood, NJ where Garry spent his childhood and formative years with his brother Dan. In those early years, he went camping with his family throughout the United States, and often visited the Netherlands, the country of his parents’ birth. Garry attended elementary school at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Maywood, then graduated from Hackensack High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society. He graduated from Rutgers University and soon after, began his career as an Electrical Engineer.

Garry had a strong love for music, photography, and animals. He was a fantastic cook, learning everything from his mother, and loved cooking with her and for others. Garry played guitar and sang with two bands; Smooth Character and Stage Hamz. He played both the electric and acoustic guitars. Garry had the pleasure of performing with his very good friend, Jim Wedeking’s band, in Tommy by the Who, at the Washington Crossing State Park Open Air Theatre; he loved jamming with Jim.

Garry was a true blue New York Giants fan and an avid reader, especially of history and biography. Garry was intelligent, knowledgeable, and well read. He was an amazing, kind, and generous friend. He was a people person who valued his many friendships.

Garry worked with several engineering firms during his career, with the last one being AKF Group since 2004. He loved his job and everyone he worked with. He was very dedicated and respected in his field. Garry’s supervisor and co-workers at AKF Group shared, “Not only was Garry an exceptional engineer, he was a down to earth great person, willing to freely give his knowledge to anyone and everyone. For those of you who did not know him well, he was a gentle soul, who was a great cook, an excellent guitar player and spoke several languages. We will dearly miss you my friend.”

Garry met his wife, Jeanne, on a blind date. She knew he was a good-hearted and sensitive man because of the love he had for his family, and for the way he loved and cared for his dog Mickey. One of their best shared memories was touring the Mayan ruins while visiting Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize.

Garry was preceded in death by his father Pete. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, his mother Anna, his brother Dan, numerous family members, both in Holland and the United States, and his wife’s family who became his.
