Robert Kaufman

LAWRENCEVILLE… Robert Maurice Kaufman, “Bob,” 85, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Greenwood House.

Born in Baltimore, he was a lifelong resident of the area until moving to Greenwood House at the end of 2008. He worked until his retirement for the Social Security Administration.  However, at heart he was a musician.   The son of a full-time musician, he played clarinet and a “mean” saxophone.  While working, he was a member of the Gettysburg Orchestra playing for numerous performances over the years.  Especially memorable were the Summers In The Park Concerts and Sing-a-Longs with that Orchestra each summer.  After retirement, he played with a number of local Big Bands in the Baltimore area.  He was an avid sports fan who loved watching football and baseball, rooting especially for his home teams the Baltimore Orioles, Colts and Ravens.

Robert had a keen white and loved to collect and tell jokes and puns. Over the years, some used to call him the great punster or the “joke-man.”  He was an integral part of the life of Greenwood House.  He will be fondly remembered at Greenwood House by staff and residents, and all those who knew him from the Baltimore area as a kind, caring, fun-loving, and good-natured man, who loved to share time with others, tell a joke, share a laugh, bring a smile and entertain others.

Husband of the late Diana R. Kaufman, with whom he shared over 35 years of marriage, Mr. Kaufman is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Evette and Arthur Katlin, and two grandchildren, Shara and Aaron, as well as his companion at Greenwood House, Leona.

Funeral services are Monday 11am, February 13, at Adath Israel Congregation in Lawrenceville. Burial will follow at Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, NY. The family respectfully requests memorial contributions made to Adath Israel Congregation, 1958 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648, or to Greenwood House, 53 Walter Street, Ewing, NJ 08628.
