Alice S. Meltzer, 75, of Columbus, passed away on August 8, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loved ones after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born May 18, 1945 in Brooklyn, NY to Sylvia & Louis Gelman, Alice was a 50-year resident of New Jersey, most of that time in Hamilton before settling in Mansfield a decade ago. Alice was a truly passionate educator for over 45 years, making an indelible mark on young people and setting them up for success. This love of teaching continued outside the classroom, where she was always willing to instruct on how to sew, knit, cook or simply offer advice.

A devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, Alice is survived by her great love, soul mate and husband of 53 years, Alan Meltzer; sons Mitchell and his wife Amy of Hamilton, Jeffrey and his wife Kimberly of Naperville, IL and Scott and his wife Robin of Medford. Best known as Grandma to her absolute joys Jennie, Samantha, Billy, Taylor, Hunter & Isabella. Alice also leaves behind her two loving sisters, Lenore and Marcia.

Whether it was a Jewish holiday, summer backyard blowout or a random Wednesday, you could find Alice cooking for days and making sure everyone was having a good time with a bright smile and positive attitude. Simply put, Alice was the nicest person you will ever meet.

Funeral services and burial are Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 am at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 189 Gill Lane, Iselin, NJ (please see bottom of page for directions). Please arrive at the cemetery administration building no later than 10:45am. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be available for streaming via Zoom.

My love and prayers to the family. Growing up in the neighborhood, I have the best memories of Mrs. Meltzer. She was always so loving to all of us who would come over to the house to hang out as kids. She will be greatly missed.
