“Pretty and small, liked by all”. Mom’s high school yearbook caption could be the caption for her life, though “smart” and “loving” should be tacked on too. A lifelong native New Yorker at heart, she was a Hunter College grad and NYC area education professional before marrying Al and raising her family in NJ and PA. Once her children reached their teens, she returned to both school and the workforce, earning a master’s degree while working full-time so Rachel and Matt could attend the colleges of their choice. After retirement, she and Al were enthusiastic Road Scholars who traveled widely. Devoted wife and her childrens’ unconditional champion, she passed quietly by the side of her husband of nearly 59 years and will always be missed by them and her circle of surviving lifelong friends.
As we slip through summer and into fall, I realize that all too soon it will be a year since my mothers passing. As we continue to sort through her things, photos and keepsakes and tchotchkes provide memories and vignettes. Speaking with her longtime friends brought a wealth of further memories. Daughter, Teacher, Wife, Mother. We love you and miss you.
