EAST WINDSOR… Helen Demsky, 92, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019.
Born in London in 1927, she moved to Reading, England in 1940 when her home was bombed during The Blitz. While working there as a seamstress, she met an American soldier named Arnold Demsky at a USO dance. The two were married on New Year’s Eve, 1944.
The two moved to Brooklyn and in 1947, Helen gave birth to their son, Martin. The family resided with Arnold’s three brothers and two sisters in the same apartment building. They moved to East Windsor in 1986 to be near their grandchildren. After Arnold’s passing, she moved to the Clearbrook Community where she resided for twenty years.
Helen enjoyed sewing and all things Hollywood, especially films. She loved traveling to her native England, and after Arnold retired in 1981, the two would return every summer for nearly twenty years.
Wife of the late Arnold Demsky, she is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Martin and Barbara Demsky, two grandchildren, Alexander Demsky and Stephanie Gold, and two great grandchildren, Austin and Jordana Gold.
A memorial service will be held 11 am Friday, March 8 at Orland’s Ewing Memorial Chapel, 1534 Pennington Road, Ewing Township, NJ. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions are respectfully requested to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
