BOYNTON BEACH, FL… Martin H. Spielman, 83, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mr. Spielman was a former resident of Plainsboro and Jackson, NJ.  He was a graduate of the City College of New York, where he earned a BS and MS in education, and Brooklyn College, where he earned an MS in administration.

Mr. Spielman was a physical education teacher and head football coach at Boys High School, Brooklyn, NY, where he was voted the Journal American Coach of the Year by his colleagues and peers. In 1968, he started the football program at Tottenville High School (THS), Staten Island, NY, which went forward winning many PSAL titles.  In 2014, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the THS Alumni Football Hall of Fame.

Mr. Spielman was the co-founder and co-director of Pine Grove Day Camp located in Jamesburg and Wall Township, NJ. He was a member and vice president of the Jackson Township Board of Education.  He co-founded, with his wife Barbara, the Jackson Educational Foundation.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara Spielman; a son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Joanne Spielman, of North Potomac, MD; a daughter, Laurie Spielman, of Washington, DC; and grandsons, Benjamin and Noah.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 3 at 4:30 pm at Westlake Golf & Country Club, 1 Pine Valley Circle, Jackson, NJ.  A reception will follow.  The family will observe Shiva on Sunday, June 4, from 2:00 pm – 8:30 pm at the home of Bernice Spielman, 100 Skyline Drive, Lakewood, NJ, and on Monday, June 5, from 7:30 pm, with services at 8:30 pm, at the home of Scott and Joanne Spielman, 11220 Welland Street, North Potomac, MD.

Entombment will be held on Thursday, June 1 at 11 am at Temple Beth El Mausoleum, 333 SW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton, FL 33432.
