EWING… Joseph N. Herzstein, 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, November 22, 2017.  Joe was and raised in Camden, NJ, then relocating to Ewing, where he lived for the last 42 years.

Joe was a graduate of Trenton State College, and University of Maryland, going on to obtain his doctorate at Temple University.  He taught for 2 years in Collingswood before becoming a professor at Trenton State College, where he retired as Professor Emeritus after 40 years of teaching.

As a TSC student Joe was the first recipient of the Senior Men’s Varsity “T”. During his collegiate athletic career, he earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball (which he was co-captain of for 2 years) and baseball.  In 1982 Joe was inducted into the Trenton State College Athletic Hall of Fame.

During his 40-year career as a professor at Trenton State College, Joe also held the positions of assistant football coach, gymnastics coach and assistant athletic director.

Joe enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, fishing, the EAGLES, daily breakfasts at Fred & Pete’s, spending time with his family, and was known by many for his annual Crab Feasts.

Joe is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Freda (Thom) Herzstein, and sister Elizabeth Block. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Bettie (Bryan), sons, Keith, and Darren, daughter-in-law Linda (Nictakis) Herzstein, many nieces and nephews, and the light of his life, his grandson Tanner Joseph Herzstein.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held Saturday, December 2nd, 12-3pm at Freddie’s Tavern, 12 Railroad Ave, Ewing, NJ.
